WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.
The usual fortnightly meeting of tho Board was held at tho Crown Lands office yesterday. Present-Messrs J. W. A. Marchar.t (Commissioner) in tho chair, G. Beetham, H. Bunny, W. W, McCardie, W, A. Fitzherbert, and A. Reese. ! A schedule of land sold since last meeting showod that 1777 acres were disposed of for £2509. .. It was resolved that the application of Messrs Brndie and Troy, selectors of section 8 Block XI, Kopuaranga, to capitalise be approved. ■ That time be given to the selector of section 65, Block XIII, Pohangina, to offecfc improvements on the same. The selector of section 4, Block XI, Mancaone, wrote that the required improvemonta had been made. It waa resolved that the secretary write bringing under his notice the deficiency in payments atill to be paid in. It waa resolved to ask the selector of sections 34 and 89 Block VII, Mangaone, when the required improvements might be expected to be completed. The application of Mr J. Hazell to capitalise his unpaid Instalments on section 33 Block IX, Pohangina, was approved; also an application from tho Wairoa Road Board for deferred payment accrued thirds. A aimilnr application from the Kiwitea Road Board was approved,.
Mr H. C. Thompson asked to be allowed to purchase some islands in the Waingawa river. The Board resolved that the adjacent owners should be consulted, and a report obtained from the ranger. Mrs 0. Croft wrote with reference to tho clearing of tho Mangaone Valley road, Mr Merchant explained that no information on the subject had been received from the Government, Mr Anderson and others presented a petition on the subject, The Board decided to again call tho attention of the Government to the resolutions already forwarded to them and ask that tenders be at once called for. Mr G. Furlong wrote that he had been induced to purchase land at Bunnythorpe at a high price, He asked that the Board should compensate him 88 the land was now boing sold at a 'ower valuation. It was resolved to inform the applicant that nothing can bo done in the matter.
A. communication from the UnderSecretary for Crown Lands, suggesting the withdrawal from sale of sections 1477, 1478,1479,1501,1502,1503, and 1504 at Bunnythorpe, and sections 3—269, 278, 274, Block VIII.; 1, 4, 6, of Block XII.; and 2,3, 5, of Block XII. Wai. huioru district, Kaiwhata, was submitted to the Board, and approved, Upon the recommendotion of the Commissioner, seotions 30, 30a, 31, and 31a, Block 111, Mangaone, were withheld from sale at present, Mr P. E. Tatham wrote with reference to his application to have section 1, block 6, Kaiwhata, sold as a small run. Agreed to. Mr R, K. Meredith wrote expressing his willingness to purchase land for a boundary fence at 10s per acre. On .the motion of Mr M'Cardle, seconded by Mr Beetham, it was decided to 1 withdraw the land from sale for the present, and further consider the application at 'the, next meeting. The Chief Commissioner recommended that section 1, block i, Mangaliao, should be offered for reapplication on the Sth instant. Agreed to. On the motion of Mr Beetham it was decided that the bush on the road leading to Mrs Dorset's land at Kop'uarangashould be cut down and burnt.
Mr McOardle brought under the notice of the memberstha inoonvenienoe caused to ;sottlers,in tHe Pahiatua village settlement by the repeated absences from that district of the present steward, Mr Mackay. He suggested that it would be better if someone who was on the spot and available at. all times should be appointed in that gentleman's stead, and mentioned Mr Boydon. . The, Board agreed to recommend to .the Government Mr Boyden's appointment, as Bteward, Mr McCardle then brought under the
notice of the Board the necessity for the bush along the; main'road through the aettlomentbeing felled, in order to assist the eettlera, nnd it waa deoided that a sura of money for the purpose should be placed in the hands of the Commissioner. • Mr Qeorge;Beetham gare notice of the following motion for next meeting •. "That this Board recommends that ; the land unsold in the Kopuaranga apd Eangitutnau blocks should be thrown open for settlement as soon as posslblo,"
