Mr T. H. Hill iuforius .us that the statement that Pasha had been leased by Mr J, 0, Vallanco to his late trainer, Mr A, J. Hoskinsr, is an error. Pasha is tho property »f Mr Hill. "A meeting of the Wairarapa shearers is convened for Saturday evening next in the Temperance Hall Maaterton, to conalder the price to be charged for shearing during the coming season. At the opening of the proceedings of the Borough Council last uight, the Mayor took the opportunity of congratulating the members upon their improved quarters. ' Ho thought, everything, had been done for their comfort all round. The public had-been studied and Bitting accommodation ! had been provided for them. The reporters had also not been overlooked* and their convenience had been provided for. Ho hoped councillors' seats.would not go a-begging. The present councillors were all that could be desired, yet- he thought it a healthy sign when Boveral burgesses came forward to contest the office when a.vacanoy occurred, The meeting was then formally opened. The following compliment to a local institution in paid,by the New Zealand Befereeln another column aro advertised the conditions of the MaatertonOpaki Jockey Club's Champagne) Stakes of 1887 and the Derby of 1888. The I former is endowed with 1.00 sovs. and the latter with 150 sovs, and are open to the present season's yearlings, Nominations of one sov' each olo3e with the Secretary at Mastarton on the Ist prox. It is gratifying evidence of the hoalthy state of the Turf in Now Zealand to see country clubs like the Masterton-Opaki one able to so liberally endow produce races, and we hope they will receive from homeowners tho patronage they deserve. At an adjourned meeting of the stewards of tho Dunediu Jockey Club held at Philp's Hotel on the 9thlnst., to consider the protest lodged by Mr G. .Robertson against the stakes for the Hurdle Eace at the Jufy meeting being handed ovor to the owner of Warepa, it was unanimously raiolved—" That the bay gelding that ran under the name of Wuropa at the Winter meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club be disqualified for ever, he not being tho hone he was represented to' be; that J. B. Mackeuzie and F. G. Parkes be disqualified for over—the former for knowingly entering and the latter for knowingly running the said Warepa,"
