GUN CLUB.

This Club held its opening meeting at Mr B. Kimberjey's farm, noarGreytown, on Saturday last. The place was admirably suited for the purpose, and nearly all the prominent sportsmen in the district were present. The day was fine, and the shooting was remarkably good. The only drawback to the proceedings was the limited supply of pigeons. The committee had used every exertion to obtain a good supply, but were disappointed in several directions,, consequently could only arrange one five-bird match; the second match being a one bird match. Several dummy matches were also shot off, and the competitors appoarod to thoroughly enjoy the sport. The.scores on the fiisVniatch were as follows :

Birds. Total. T. Grace, 01010 2 E. H. Buckoridge, 00010 ... 1 E. Vennell, 01010 ... ... 2 ■ N. Grace. 11001 3 T. Ins-ley. 11010 ... ... 3 W. Scale, 11001 3 . P. F. Tancred, 1000, retired 1 P. Cotter, 1000, retired ... 1 In the first round Mr Scale shot his first bird at the first pull; Mr T. Grace also hit his bird, but it feU out of bounds. ; Mr N. Grace made an excellent shot with his second barrel; •so also Mr T. Ingluy, which indeed he followed up throughout tho match, firing very steadily, and with' true aim; Mr Tancred'knocked hisbirdi; over with thefirstshot very cleanly. In'j the second round Mr T. Grace made a grand killing shot with his first' pull, the bird was a strong one on the wing. Mr N. Grace shortly after made a similar clean shot, Mr Scale shot his bird at the second pull, and so also did Mr Tancred, but his bird fell out of bounds. Mr Tancred made some excellent shooting, but was very unlucky with his birds; some rose very badly, and others got away wounded. In the third round Mr E. Vennell'made a pretty shot with his first pall; his was a good display o( skill. Iu the fourth round Mr T. Grace killed Mb bird with his second barrel, Mr E. Buckeridge made a good hit with his first pull, so did Mr Scale, but his bird fell beyond the boundary. Ultimately Messrs Scale, N. Grace, and -T. Ingley having fired off the tie and each having shot his bird, arranged to share the prize to -save birdß for the'next match. The next match brought but seven competitors, Messrs P. Cotter, N. Grace, P. F. Tancred, W. Scale, E. Vennejl, T. Grace and T. Ingley, and Messrs E. Vennell and N. Grace were the winners, having agreed to divide the tie. The third match was won by Mr Taucred, Mr P. Cotter won the fourth, and Mr Tancred the last, and then the company, which was a thorough representative) one,* adjourned to the cottage, where a meeting was held, Mr N. Grace, the Vice-President,-in. the chair. Several propositions in the interests of the Club were made, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Tancred, That the Committee be asked to provide monthly meetings to be held alternately at the several towns in the Lower Valley whore members reside. It waß also rasolved to recommend, the Committee to provide glass balls for occasional use when birds were scarce. 'There is one feature connected with the day's 'sport that is well worthy of rlotice, and that is the splendid reception the committee provided for their guests. The catering was left in the able hands of Mr and Mrs Arthur Jones, of the Foresters' Arms Hotel, who provided handsomely, and it is needless to saythat the guests did their part well also;'' .The healths of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Host (Mr B. Kimberley), the Secretary, Committee, &c., were all drank, and some neat and happy speeches were mado, and then the company dispersed, with a unanimity of feeling as to having spent a very enjoyable day. •It is probable that a large match of the Club may be held on the racecourse, Greytown, on November 11th, after, the spring race meeting.—Standard.
