Later in the day a deputation consisting of Messrs Bunny (chairman), Beecham, Buchanan, and Taylor, had an interview with the Premier with respect to the nebessary amendments required to be made in the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act to'give effect to the above resolution. The Premier said ho would give the quostion due consideration, but he oxprossodan emphatic opinion that the Board was foolish in wishing for the separation. The following cables were road in the Ifouso of Representatives yesterday afternoon warding the accusations of mismanagement made against the N.Z, officials at the London Exhibition;— Prom the Treasurer to the Agent General.— I "Reflections made on the N.Z, Court such as that it is inferior to other Colonies, and not worthy of tho Colony at a third rate museum ; Buller's collection is over-prominent, too much natural history, inadequate attention to useful productions, gold obelisk desirable, timber not received justice. Advise what, if any, truth in these statements, and give a general estimate of the N.Z. Court. Do you think it advisable to do anything!" From Agent• General to Treasurer.—" Have summoned Commission to consider the message, but meanwhile rent assured that such sweeping detraction i» not merely without warrant, but entirely contrary to the general verdict, and really quito ridioulous, Nono of the Courts compare with Canada, but yours compares well with tli<> Australian, having regard to the materials at Dr Yon Haast's command." The reading of the above was received in the House with applause.

Mary Ann Broughan, housemaid at Hammerich'a hotel, Grey town, was found dead in tho dairy at 4.45 p.m, yesterday. The deceased had apparently committed suicide by hanging lWiielf. Tlu quarterly meeting of the Loyal United Friends took place last evening at the Temple Chambers lodge room and was very well attended. The election of officers for the'ensuing term took place with the following result:—Bros E, Johnson W.M., J. Ward D.M., A. Hathaway secretary, H. Broom treasurer. J. Walker steward, H. Nordell D.S., Brash 1.G., W. Whitfc 0.G,, J Blackwood L,A, Tho installation was fixed for next lodge night. Two propositions for membership were received.

To-night Mr Matthew Burnett will lecture on Dr. Mitchell, his great central picture from real life in Australia. Dr Mitchell, the celebrated occulist and man of genius, was known to consumo daily two bottles of brandy for years. He was also a Prince among gamblers m Victoria, One spoeial feature in this evening's lecture will be the introduction of parages from the lecturer's own life, and from that of the ohief among orators, the late J. B. Gough. Mr H. A, Stratford, 11.M., will occupy the chair upon tins occasion.
Mr Matthew Burnett held a meeting for ladies yesterday, at three o'clock, in tho Theatre. About 150 ladies were present. Rev, D. Fulton presided, and conducted the opening exorcises. Mr Burnott spoko first of the Women's Tern* perance Union in America, and the wonderful work accomplished by them, and then gave ope of his pictures from real life. At the close of an interesting and impressive address 39 signed the pledge and donned the blue.
