MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.

The following business was tranaefcod i after we went to press on Saturday:—lt, was resolved that the following resolution be sent to tho Premier and copies bo sent to the various Road Boards: "That inasmuch as no ultra-delimitation is spocified in the Road Board Act, 1882, sec. i. constituting ucw Road District, it is all important that a minimum extent and value of rateable property he embodied therein to prevent the multiplicity and reduction of road districts to an absurdity.' That whereas errors are made and groat injuries aro inflicted on individual settlers, whether through oversight or otherwise, by dragging their properties from one distriot into another, irrespective of their ■wishes and the natural outlet 6t those properties, and. that the local bodies are helpless to ■ rectify those errors and 'readjust the boundaries thus affected seeing that the 9th section makes it prohibative. That' this Board therefore submits that section 9, of .the ■ Road Boards Act 1882 should be repealed and i greater facilities granted, empowering 'countios to make suoh alter--1 ationa as will remove those inflictions provided always that the co-tormiuus boundaries of County Ridings and Road Boards are not interfered with. That in view of .the fact that many small Road Districts are being contributed undor the Road Boards Act, 1882, Section 4, the revenue of .those petty .Boards will be proportionately lessened, and consequently the oxpanaos involved in administering the Road Board Act as provided by Section 32 and 33 presses hea.vily on their reduced resources; we are of opinion, that vacancies of wardons should only occur through, the resieuation, in capacitatioh, or death of wardens, and that sections 32 and 33, being cumbrous, extravagant, and unnecessary, should be expunged from the Act." . The .following resolution .was also passed: " T,hat strong representations be made to the Government, pointing out the destructions committed by the employees on the branch road to the Riaamahunga river,- which this Board allowed the Government to use for the purpose of getting gravel for railway construction. This Board aho complains of their insulting language to settlers when spoken to of obstructing traffio through carelessness and otherwise, and request that the Government lift the rails at once and make : the road as it was six months ago to the satisfaction of this Board's Overseer. Accouuts amounting to £132 3s Bdwere passed for payment; and the. meeting j| adjourned. ■•■'*. ■'' ' ■'
