The excitement here has almost subsided. Heavy showers of dust and pumice fell at Opotiki and Whnkatano, covering the ground to a depih of several inches, feed for the time being, completely destroyed, and it is not expected to recover for many months. Settlers are at their wits end to know what todo. The Cattle are reported aa roaAing about bellowing in a state of starvation. Rsngiora and To Puke settlers have fared badly from the same cause, and the fern and tutu in tfcese places are completely gone. Many of ihe settlers are preparing to shift their Btoek further down the coast, There is no appearance of further disturbance. Rotorua, June 12.
Mr Burt states that the terraces at Mount Maungahbmkini have been destroyed by the vioient aotion of the eruptions spreading. Eighty natives have been killed. The funeral of Mrs Hazard takes place to-morrow.
