A Fancy Dross Ball is to be held at the OddFellows' Hall, Feathorston, on the 21st insfc., under the managemeiit of Mr J. Hyde Parker, of that township. The one held a fow weeks since was so thoroughly enjoyable that Mr Parker has beon requested by his frianda to arrange for the second one, and no doubt it will be woll patronised. Mr Fred Crook is announeed to lecture to-morrow evening in the Theatre Royal, tho subject being " Money and Misery." This leoture deals with the poverty question, and embodies graphic scenes in London life, of which Mr Crook has been an actual observer and is a very able exponent.
The one topic in Featheraton just now is the eruption at Rotorua. Reports were distinctly heard in Feathorston by several persons at an early hour on Thursday morning, and many speculations were indulged in as to the cause, but there was very little thought of it being so serious a matter. The reports were distinctly heard up the Bimutaka valley by settlers, We understand the net proceeds of the Winter Evening Entertainment, under the management of the Wairarapa Institute Committee, Greytown, on Monday last, wis £4 2s 6d, and so popular have these entertainments become that it iB found necessary to hold them in tho Town Hall, the admission being 6d and 3d. Surely the success of our Greytown friends should be some encouragement for the other townspeople in the valley to go and do likewise.

The Canterbury Jockey Club have declined to give a decision in the case referred to them by the Taratahi-Oarter-ton Jockey Club, concerning the protest entered by the owner of Normanby agaiiißt Qkato, the horse which came' in first in the Olareville Handicap. Mr R. J. Pitton, the secretary of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Society,has received from Mr 6.
