TEMPERANCE.

A nißiio meeting was held in the Temperance Hall last evening to consider what steps should be tuken to receive Mr Matthew Burnett.

The Rev Mr Buttle, who occupied the chair, read a letter from Mr William Price, of Wellington, in reference to Mr Burnett's visit to Wellington and the probability of his cumin? to the Wairarapa, from which it appeared that Mr Burnett would be in Blenheim on the 11th ;.from there he would go to Wellington for two weeks, the flutt district would occupy ten days, and if Mr Burnett wont through tlio Lower Valley, it would be at least six weeks before they could reckon on his visit to Musterton,

Considerable discussion took place upon the question of expenses, and it was resolved to appoint a Committeo for the purpose of obtaining all the necessary information,- and to report at a fntiiro meeting, such committee to consist of Messrs Graham, . Easthope, Kingdon, Bamber, Holdaway, and Robinson, and the Revs. Fulton and Buttle, with power to add to their number. Several other matters were referred to the Committee and the meeting adjourned. Afterwards the comtnitttio held a meeting. Mr Butfclo was asked to act as Secretary, and write to Mr Price of Wellington for further information, and if necessary to write direct to Mr Burnett. It was resolved to try and obtain a visit from Mr Noble, the Gospel Temperance advocato, who is at present in Wellington, and the Secretary was instructed to write for information. The question of where tohold the meetings, and how best to meet the expenses, was discussed, and it was resolved to consider the matter at tlio next meeting of Committee, which was arranged to bo held in the same place on Thursday, Jnne 17th. In regard to Mr Burnett's visit to the Lower Yalley and 'other. Wairarapa townships, the Kov. Mr Ward had been communicated with and would attend to all arrangements for that district. The meeting then adjourned.
