of the Councillors and explained that their advice was not necessary as to securing private donotions. Mr Beetham said the County finances were not in a very flourishing condition, They had compelled to interview their bankers to obtain accommodation, that was probably the reason why they had not voted the sum applied for in full. If the Committee were not able to obtain a sufficient response in the shape of private contributions the Council, ho felt sure, would rather increase their vote than strike a rate. The Chairman said the number of hands had been reduced on several large stations. That would mako the revenue smaller.', Last year, also, they had a Bpecial subscription of £25, and a legacy of £2O, which with the subsidy amounted ;to £9O. That could not be calculated ■upon for the current year. He did not think the County Council should assume the Trustees wore lessoning their efforts to obtaiuicontributions.
The Rev. Mr Paisro aaid it sooined to him that it was only the Chairman of the County who objected to the vote, and •he had acted in the same way over the ■Benevolent Society grant, He did not think tho Council as a whole opposed to it, and he was surprised to see only £25 instead of £SO voted. It was resolved that tho Council be asked to reconsider the amount of their grant, and that they be informed the Trustees do'not intend to ask for more than the £SO. It was further understood that should subscriptions come in in excesß of the • estimate, the second £25 would not be drawn.
The Hospital diary was then read, It contained a record by three patients, named John Gibson, John Rosa, and John Lang, expressive of their appreciation of the way in which they had been treated during their stay in the hospital. Tho following accounts were passed for payment:—Brunnor Coal Co. Lslos (id, T, Jago (funeral) L 3, J, Payton and Co. LI 17s b'd, M. Caselbergand Co. L 8 9s 4d. The Rev. W. E, Paige was appointed visiting member for the ensuing month, This concluded tho business.
