MAURICEVILLE ROAD BOARD.

The first meeting of the Road Board was held at the new school room Mauricevillo 29th day of May 188 li at 1.30 p.n. Present Messrs Jessen, Gunderaen, Foraberg, Jackson, and Andersen,

Moved by Mr Jackson that Mr Jossen be elected Chairman for|the ensuing year. Seconded by Mr Foraberg and carriod. Moved by Mr Jackson that Mr Franklin be appointed temporarily Clerk, --Seconded by Mr Foraberg,—Carried. Moved by Mr Gundersen that the Chairman be appointed Treasurer.— Seconded by Mr Jackson.—Carried. From the Commissioner ot Crown Lands re ad application from Mr Salter for bridge giving access to his section. Moved by Mr Jackson, and seconded by Mr Gundersen that action be defered till next meeting for want of information,

From Duncan Maclachlan applying for an appointment as engineer to the Board.

Proposed by Mr Gundersen and seconded by Mr Jackson, That there being no need for an ongineer, the application be declined with thanks.

Prom the Secretary of the Postal Department enclosing copies from Mr Macara, complaining of the bad state of the bridges in Mauriceville. . Mr Jackson moved, That the Board should repair the bridges as far as their resources allowed, and also to remind the Secretary that they received no aßsistanoe from the Government.— Seoonded by Mr Gundersonand carried,

Moved by the Chairman, Than an application be made to the Minister of Public Works for a small sum to bo placed on the estimates to be spent on the Maurice- 1 ville road on acoount of the extra heavy traffic passing through Mauriceville, thus saving tho main road, where the Government grant is expendod.—Soconded by Mr Jackson and carried.

Moved by Mr Jackson, That an application be mado to the Survey Department for a map of tho Mauriceville Road District, properly sectioned—Seconded by Mr'Forsborgand carried. Moved by Mr Gundersen, That all tho necessary books for tho Board be procured.—Soconded by Mr Jackson and carried.

The Chairman moved that an application bo made to tlvo Property Tax Department for the valuation of sections not mentioned on the valuation rollSeconded by Mr Forsberg and carried. It was moved by the Chairman that it iB -intended at a meeting to bo held at the schoolroom on the day of Juno next at 1 o'clobk p.m. to levy a general rate of (threo farthings in the pound on rateable value of the property within the district for the year commencing on the first day of April, 1886, and ending 011 the 31sfc day of March, 1887, .payable in ono sum on the 30th June, 1886, at Mr Gundersbn's store, during the hours of 9a.m and 4 p.m., and that the rats book be open for inspection at the same place, The motion was seconded by Mr Audorson and carried.

It was moved by Mr Jackson that the ordinary meetings be held on the last Saturday in each month at 1 o'clock p.m. Seconded by Mr Gunderson and carried.

On the question being brought up as to where the Board had to hold its ordinary meetings, the Chairman offered free me of a room at his house, and on the motion of Mr Anderseu the offer was received with thanks.

On lots being drawn as to which of the members were to vacate their offices at the expiration of twelve months, the lotß fell to Messrs Jackßori and Jessen.

Moved by Mr Jackson that the Chairman cause notices to bs posted up at the Bridges to caution traveller of the unsafe state of the bridges. Seconded by Mr Gunderson. Carried. Moved by Mr Gunderson th»t & sum not exceeding two pounds be spent ii> diverting the water from the road

Seconded by Mr Jockson. Carried. Moved by Mr Jackson that the Chaiiman take steps to have the bridges recovered, and tbe approaches made passable. "
