MASTERTON FARMERS CLUB.

The regular monthly meeting of tho Club was held on Saturday. Present Messrs T. Chamberlain V.P. (Chairman), Buick, Carman, Johnston, E. Chamberlain, Dalrymple, Hessey, Hogg, Brown, Shaw, and Guild,. The Ploughing Match'Committe reported that two sites suitable had been offered by Mr R. Campbell, and Mr Buick. The Committee were instructed to inspect the land and choose the most suitable one. The prize j list was gone through, .and the following alterations made: -For the double furrow £5, £3, and £2 were decided on. Single furrow £3, £2, and £l. Youths under 19, double furrow £4, and £2. Best team' 3 horses 30s. Best pair horses £l. A prize: will be giren for tho best feeling and finish. The dato of the match, and arrangements for dinner etc., was left in the hands of the ploughing match Committee. It was resolved that in future the Club meet at half past 2 oclock,

Tho Secretary on behalf of Mr Stuckey suggested that a guarantee should be given by the' Club to secure a really firstclass entire horse for tho district.

The President thought the idea was very good. The question was discussed, tho majority being of opiiiiqn that.a really first-class animal would do well in the district.

It was resolved to bring tho question forward at the next meeting, the members in the meantime to think tho mattor ovor.

: Mr'S. Mawleyand Mr R, Cade wore proposed as mombers,'Mr J. Hossey said he was getting over a sot of diso harrows, and if any farmers wished to see them working, he would be most happy to show them. It was suggested that the harrows should be worked at the ploughing match. Mr A..Johnson referred to the Scab Act, He said as far as lice was concerned the Act was quite as stringent as for scab. It was imnossible to exterminate lice, and farmorß labored undor great hardship by the working of the Act. If a man had a property and a public road rau through it, he dare not take his sheep across that road to dip them if his dip was in the opposite paddock. Mr D. Guild said, whilst acknowledging the Act was severe, he certainly upheld it as regarded exposing sheep for sale that were not clean from lice. When the Government framed the last Act,'thoy were under the impression that they could eradicate lice the same as scab. They could not do that. He held that sheep should be cleaned from lice before they were sold.

Mrßuicksaid in the spring the sheep got free of themselves from lice. Mr Hogg said he had a letter from South Australia in which it was stated that although they had legislated on scab, they had not interfered 91th lice, and considered it unuecessaiy. Mr Guild laid the sheep should be dipped every year under compulsion, and that being done, nothing further would be necessaiy. Lice were Introduced with Lincoln sheep. Aftersome further discussion it was resolved to bring the matter forward at the meeting of the Agricultural Society. The meeting then adjourned,
