The South Australian Parliament was opened to-day hy His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Robinon, who in his speech on the occasion referred to the jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen, and ah:o to the Indian ami Colonial Exhibition, His Excellency, after announcing the probability of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales visiting the colony, passed on to deal with other matters affectiug the Government of the colony, Regret was expressed for the exiting depression in trade, but His Excellency was satisfied that by energy and the exercise of economy and judicious legislation, prosperity would be restored. It had been deemed inexpedient lo continue the subsidy in connection with tho administration of New Guinea, and in order to effect retrenchment within the colony, it wub pronosed to reduce the cost of tho government of the northern territory and lower the salaries of members ot the Civil Service.
