GREYTO WN VOLUNTEER SUIREE.
The soiree, under the auspices of tho above corps took place at the Town Hall on Monday evening, the proceeds of which were to go towards, assisting in a tangiblo'iform the funds of the Institute, which had lately got rather lower than was considered desirable for bo able and useful an institution. ■ uji The Committee interviewed the leW ing members of the corps, and 'some of,// the residents to. try- and arrange thjK soiree, thinking it might be a -financw*- -- success, The Volunteers, with' their usual courtesy and liberality, promptly undertook the promoting of it. They, of ' course, solicited the assistance of the lady residents of the town, and th'oir fs|rU wero rewarded by perhaps one of the most successful soires that has taken place in Greytownfora considerable time past. ' It is evident the Volunteer Soiree of 1886 will bo one to bo remembered by the members and their lady friends and visitors for aome considerable time to' come. Indeed, the Hall was taxed to iU uttermost to accommodate tho dancers' present, of whom there wero 70 couples, engaged in one dance, The- dresses of the ladies were rich and varied, and it would be difficult to select a belle, as each ' dressed as becomingly as one another,'' We think the Misses Luxford, Wakelin, York,' G'allatrher and Phillips might be mentioned as the. leading belles, ••• Perhaps the most noticable feature ofJjjto nights carnival was the kindred feeling that prevailed 1 throughout. QM refreshments, supplied principally by the. Vgenerosity of tho ladies, were as good m tho most ardent epicure could desire,'.' and the dispensing of the same was in thv able hands \>f Mr and Mrs Reynolds. The. music was supplied by Messrs Lundquiifc and Keisenberg, and was perfect. Mr J, Maguire acted throughout the ovehihg as 7 M.C., ably assisted'by Lieut. D. Cameron ' with great success. At least one Of the " reasons of tho present soiree being such asuccesswasduetothe very reasonable price of admission, In these hard times' people cannot afford to.paytoo dearly for v an evening's amusement,
