FOOTBALL ENTERTAINMENT.
One of the most successful entertainment* yet hold in Masberten came off last evening in tire Theatre Royal, and must hare been a source of gratification to those who have the financial prosperity of tie Football Club at heart. The circle and front seats were filled and the Bitting aocommodatibn at the back received "its fair share of pleasure seekers.. Previous to the performiinco a combination of the Volunteer and Private Rands played several selections" outside which were appreciated by a large gathering. The orchestra under the leadership of Mr Pupworth played as an overture to th» * hrst part "La Oouroune D'Or" in a very pleasantmanuer, and also gave one of their favorite operatic gems' as a prelude to the second part. Thoprogrammewasfaithfully carried out, with two exceptiJfcbvlz., th» Zither solo, owing to an accidHt, Mm omitted, and the glee "Oft when®A* which the management were complflflrfco abandon on account of a portioiilPth* audience trying to break through a rule »f the programme in demanding an encore,' « § ft' m " S ' Cal selecll ™Bthe Misses M. and D, Welch performed a very creditably exeouted duet on Jho pianoforte, 11 Oorn«i|o' and recoived an undoubted favorable round of applause, and Miss Andersons Pianoforte solo "Signal March was equally well received The ' lady vocalists Miss Lemon and Mrs' VWigley were very successful in their respective efforts, " Vashti" and " Auld Kobin dray, the litter-receiving an en. core, which the rule of the programm* would not admit. The Orpheus Glm Olub made a decided favorable impression in Maying, and itistoberegrQttid th&tthw were unable to give "Oft when night," as the ability of the performers is such that, success must follow their performances in vocal mußic. The duets by Mesßrs Armstro!]KanaGant"MothorinHeav o n" and Messrs Moore and Coleman "Army and Navy " were exceptionally well rendered both in time and tune. Amona the gentlemen soloists, Mr Oolomau (tonor and Mr Moore (bass) carried off the palm, although tho otherJfcntlemen acquitted themselves very Will Mr H. Williams' song, with.banjo accompanying was, judging from the uproarions applause, the item' on the programme. The Mastorton Amatemjta matic Club brought the evcningWtertainment to a close with ope of tWfyU performed amusing farces, bomg kept in a continuou'sroarof laughter andwere sent homo with pleasant recoU cctions of the Queen's Birthday entertainment of the Masterton Football Club
