FOOTBALL.
The return match between the Carterton and Greytown Club's first teams was played on Saturday at Greytown, and again resulted m a draw. Greytown were again unfortunate in having four ef their first team away. Two spells of forty minuses were played. Fairbrother won tho toss and elected to play with tho sun, and Udy for Greytown kicked off at halfpast three. Scrimmages were at once' tho order, and play in.the first portion of the spell was pretty even, but in the latter part the Greytown teain' kept the Carterton men close to their touch-line. Carterton forced down in solf defense and time was called, The Second was a repetition of the first except that the play was much faster, and Carterton on the defeusivo nearly the whole time. Once by some excellent close play the ball was got over the Carterton line, and G. Humphries touched down but the umpire gave " No try" for •not touching dead, .Shortly after, no W&3 jjas called, nostra being uuulo on, (shfer side. For .Cajtejlon, p. Peters distinguished th&nsolves most in the forward*, Poj Greytown, Burch, J, Humphries, hid Terry played well back, vsilo G. Hunv phries, 0. Beard, and H. Udy played the best forward.game. Carterton played well together while Greytown seemed to work individually more than collectively except on two or three occasions whon the/got a lose scrimmage on,, when some of their old form appeared.
Mammon v Tjj Ore Oke. ' Yesterday afternoon the above clubs tried conclusions, and after a good ganio the former won by a goal and two tries to one try. The Masterton team was rather a scratch one, having to be made up on the ground. The tries for Masterton were obtained by Whatman (2) and J. Perry, 0. Perry converting one of them into a goal with a fine kick, Himiona made tho score for the Te Ore Ore team, but ne goal resulted. Masterton played a man short all through, and W. Perry retired during tho second spell, not having quite recovered from the recent fall from his horse, All the scoring was dono during the first spell, the second being hotly contested throughout, the Maoris having rather the best of it, the forwards playing together much better than in the first. ,Ellers played a fine game for the losers, stopping the Masterton rushes lime after time, and gaining a lot of ground with his punting. At the conclusion of thn game hearty cheers were given by the opposing teams, Mr H. Pearson's Private Band very kindly came to the ground and played a number of selections during the afternoon, which tended to make the proceedings enjoyable. There was a very large number of spectators in the Park.
Red Stars. The first fifteen of the Ifesterton Red Stan played the Melrose Sfilb (Wbllinfl-
ton), the Stars winning by a try (secured by J. Polling) to nil. The second fifteen ef the Red Stare played the second of the Taita, the game resulting in a draw, eacli side securing a try,
