RAILWAY RETURNS. <j>*. _♦_ : -jgU The railway returns for tho four Treeka ending 31st March, gives the total receipt! as £99,074 13s, of which the North Island lines contributed £31,891? 12r9d, and the Middle. Island lines £07,179 fti 4d. In the corresponding period hit year the receipts were £92,860 7s Id, th» respective contributions being—North Island, £30,78812s 4d; Middle Island, £02,11014s 9d. The expenditure for th» four weeks covered by the return amounted to £58,588 8s 2d, and the North Island lines absorbing £21,945 7i 9d, and the .Middle Island' lines: £36,643 0s fid. In tho corresponding period last year the expenditure was £fif ( 246. Os sd, £18,982 6i lid being on the North Island, and £38,263 14s 6 on thoseof tho Middle Island.
