CORRESPONDENCE.

SHEEP-FARMEBS AND THE ACT. (To ins Ediio*.) Sir,—l should very much like to hear an expression of opinion from the sheepfarmers in Wairarapa North regarding tho working of the Lice Act in that district. 1 have had ten years experience with sheep lice in Poverty Bay, Hawkes' Bay, and Whareama, and my experience teaches me that it is practically impossible to eradicate sheep lice from a flock, one of tho prinoipal reasons being that in all largo flocks there is a per centage of debilitated sheep who fall an easy prey to parasites of all descriptions. The more you knock sheep about the more you increase the number of weakly sheep in a flock, On tho other hand it is comparatively easy by keeping oheop in good condition and dipping lato in. the autumn to keep the pest down to such an extent that they do very little harm. •' Mr Drummond has proved himself a very effipieut officer, Under his supervfwrat wVWofawaJ ont ifr Waiw-

rapa North; ■ Under his 1 supervision we have overy reason to • hobe that m «°r cleared out of Wwrarapa North, will hs be able to clear licooutf Poasibly it will be at i»reat expense to nil of the settlers in his district,, probably being the' last straff on' the Camel's-back to tome-of them. Even ifMriDruimuund is successful in clearing out the result be eqiial to the cost;this is a', question of, great iraportanoe ; t(uflockmasters. I think that the- stieeMßMers ought to have'a voice'ih: the japro m well as the Sheep Department, ' -* ' I am. etc. .'IIE. Tatham,. Homewood, May 7th,-1886. :
