FERNRIDGE SCHOOL.
Mr Robert Lee, Inspector of schools, concluded his examination of this school on Friday, being occupied with the work for two days. The result. was, in every way, highly satisfactory; eighty-eight per cent of expected passes being secured. Mr Joseph Williams was in attendance to put the boys through their drill, and was especially thanked by the Inspector for: the interest he took in the matter. The following brief particulars are given:— Infants below Standard 1, 33; Presented in standards, 56; Excepted or absent, 5; Failed, (j; Passed in Standards, 45. New features in the examination were military drill, science, and freehand drawing, with which the Inspector was. well pleased. The drawing came in for an unusual measure of praise, and took full marks as an "additional subject" throughout the whole school, In addition to the ordinary "pass subjects," high marks were obtained tor "class subjects" and "additional subjoots." At the conclusion of the examination, Mr Lee, after speaking in flattering terms of the results, and stating that the : school had given satisfaction throughout, very foroibly impressed upon his listeners the fact that the race was not with the swift, nor wtwy with th skong, but that steady perseverance overcame difficulties, and triumped in the end, Before leaving lie gaveji special holiday.
