CORRESPONDENCE.
SHORT STREET CONTRACT.
[To the Editor.] Sir.—l beg to ask if the Borough Council is_ satisfied with the quantity of material that is now being carted into Short street, for the purposo of making that street. It certainly has been a long time the people have been waiting tohavo the street put in proper repair, but, so far as I can judge from the material that is beine; put there, it will only, as the winter comes on, create a sloush of mua and filth, and, in all probabilities, bo far worse than ifj has hitherto been. lam not finding fault with the work, or with those concerned in doing of it, but with tho material being used, and I feel satisfied that a tjood durable piece of road work cannot bo made with it, and, from what I have seen of late, it is quite different from that wluch the Council compel private porsons to make streets lately sold. How is this? Does Councilor Cullen belong to the Works Committee 1 If so let him move in this matter. However, it is high time a move was made to secure the ratepayers a good road In roturn for tho money they pay. 1 am, &c., Thomas Wiuiim Shute.
