R.M. COURT.

CARTERTON,—TUESDAY. Before H. A. Stratford, R.M. Adam Armstrong was charged oh the information of Constable Darby that ho did, on the'lßth March, 1886, by negligence and carelessness, cause injury and damages to the telegraph line at Carterton. The defendant admitted,that by taking a house under the wires two ot them were broken, but did not admit any. carelessness or negligence in so doing, Evidence was called showing the height of the wires front the road to be 19ft, whilo the height of the house cn the trestles was 19ft 4in. The Resident Magistrate explained to tho dofendant that 'ho fact of the house being more than that of tho ordinary loads passing under the wires was quite sufficient to prove negligence, The defondant was fined 10s and costs 13s, with witness' expenses 255, and' ordered to pay 37s damages. John Buckevidgo v Thomas Ridgway,— Debt £4 ss—Defendant did not appear. Mr Beard for plaintiff. Judgment for plaintiff for amount and costs 12s, and counsel's fee ■ 21s. James Sexton v Wi Mahupuku.—Debt £2l lis 4d—Defendant did not appear. Mr Beard for plaintiff. Judgment for amount and costs 30s, and counsel's foe 425. _ There were a numbor of cases on the list which were settled out of Court, Judgment confessed, or no appearance, and were struck out.
