WAIRARAPA WEST COUNTY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers on Saturday. Present.—Crs H. Bunny (m the chair), W. C. Buchanan, H- R. Bunny, H. Braithwaite, A. Matthews, J. My, and C.Phillips. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. The balance sheet was read <uid laid upon the table. •Correspondence :-From Public Works Department re £325 balance undor Koads and Bridges Construction Aet; fiom Taratahi-Carterton Road Board ro the loan of £900; From Featherston Road Board re the loan, stating that.the matter would be fully, discussed after the election of new Wardens; fronV Greytown Borough Council, Carterton Town Board, and'Featherston Town Boatd, re Gountjj' by-laws, approving of the saniejjJil'J from the Wairarapa East County Owlicil the same. • "■'••'' * ' The Public Works report was adopted Cr Phillips enquired if tho races were to be lent to the County Council,, as ;ho thought all the rates were required 'for repairs in their own districts,' in answer to which Cr H. R. Bunny stated that a special provision would be made in re«peot to the loans. Cr Phillips further enquired what fclie revenue of the •Council was to enable them to repay tho nionoyi Cr Buchanan stated that there was; .very little doubt but that, the County Councili would ba subsidised in a more liberal manner by tho Government than had been done formerly. The Engineer's report was read and approved. ut ■ Tenders for contract INo. 7,' chains, Martinboruugh-Palmua road, were opened as followsßowden and Hurly £250, D. Haggerty-£3 63 per chain, P. ,0. Madsen £271, Burgess Bros. £3 Bs per chain, W., Errinijton £2 7s per chain (accepted), P, Carr £3lB, Gardner and Keerin'£3l9. County by-laws, re slaughter-houses and carrying of light—After a goo/V deal of discußßion on the matter, it waamMy by Cr Phillips, and seconded by Citrmfad that as thero has been no answer from tfia Wairarapa East County Council and tho Masterton Borough Council whether thoaa bodies approve of them or otherwise, and asitisbeßt for one uniform by-law to exist throughout the Wairarapa District, the passing them stand over till tho next meeting of the Council. •Cr H, R, Bunny.asked that the sum of £lO which was now due for the Hurunuiorangi ferry toll be paid to tho TaratahiCarterton Road Board. Granted, Or W. 0. Buchanan moved, And Cr H. R. Bunny seconded, that the sum of £SO be voted the Clerk, Mr H. H. Wolters,asa bonus for the efficient manner in which ha had fulfilled his duties as clerk to the Council, The motion was carried unani. mously, Mr Wolters in a few appropriate. remarks thanked the Councillors; "• 'Or Phillips moved, and Or Matthews seconded, that the Engineer inspect tho road on the south of the Waiohine bridge and report at the next-meeting. This conducted the business and the Council adjourned till the 29th May.
