CORRESPONDENCE.

SURFACE MEN,

I [To the Editor.] Sir,—l see in Friday's paper a letter from Telford" on road maintenance; Ine letter is all trash.' He first goes for the roadmen, and then he tries to lay down a plan for getting the work done at what he calls a schedule price 1 wonder what he knows about schedule price, j He then goes on to say his plan would d 0 away w j fcn f avor itl ST n. jfow all to is mean; it sounds like schoolboys' talk, or perhaps this««Telford" has asked or a billet and been refused, but even that will not excuse the meanness of his letter. In the first place it is very bad for a man like him that knows nothing whatever about roads and what work is to be done on them to dictate to a most efficient staff of olcers. I wonder if Telford would leave the few poor married men on the road for the winter. If not will he employ them? No, he is too mean, as shown by his letter, We hope to come across this Telford, and 1 hope it may be a wet day, for he will find us perambulating up the road as he says To conclude, I will give this Telford a piece of sound advice; first, don't go for the roadmen or trouble about roads, there are good men to look to that; second, don t write to newspapers, but write poemß-and burn them. lam, etc., Duncan.
