FEATHERSTON ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meotingof the above Board was held on Saturday; PresentMessrs Jameß Donald, A. Mathews, J. Tully, D. Cameron, 0. Harris, H. o.' Dowraan.andD.McDougall. The minutos of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported £61515s 7d to the credit o( the general account, and £207 9s 7d to the credit of the imprest account. Messrs Donald and McDougall were appointed to sign cheque?, and accounts amounting to £163 9s 8d against tlw ordinary account, and £lO5 lja 9d against the imprest'-account- were passed forpaym'ont, Correspondence outward's sinfce the last meeting was read from the letter book. The following inward correspondence was then dealt with:- .■ . , . v, From Geo. Laurie, agreeing, to '--the conditions in respect to the lease, of the Waihenga toll gate. ■ -,J----v From Wairarapa West County Council in respect to loan, and asking 1 the Board to 're-consider its decision.—lt was resolved, on the/motion of Mr Mathews, that the matter stand over until after the. election of a new Board.. ■ From the Minister of: Public Worksnotifying that the Government would grant the "application of the Board for SMti form' lie m frt« OiW iCWelc
station, on • condition, that; the Board takeall responsibility as,to compensation, fencing, etc'. 'Prom Wm.: Wood, asking that ton cliaiiißof drain opposite Poison's be cleared. —The; Warden, was asked to see to this matter, > •'■■' From Mr Coleman. Phillips, asking that the ranger be reinstated in the Otaraia Ward, leaving out Maryborough township—No action was taken, From the same, asking for a statement of the expenditure in connection with the road through section 85, Wharekaka.—lt was decided that Mr Phillips be informed that ho can obtain tho same on application to the Clerk, ■ „ From Mr Briscoe, offering to collect tolls at the Waihenga toll gate.—Tho offer was not entertained. A telegram was read from the Chairman of the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board in respect of loan to County Council to the effect that that Board was willing to advance a sum if the; Featherflton Road Board would do tho same. This matter was deferred until a future meeting. The application of Mr Baillie for road work at Papawai was granted. _ In respect of Mr A. McLeod's application for the survey of a line at Pahau, Mr Skeet was instructed to interview Mr John Cameron on the matter. Mr Brickell asked to he allowed to transfer his contract for Kaiwaiwai drain to Mr J. Mason. Agreed to. The f6llowing tenders were then opened -For 48 chains Otaraia road-Thomas Greenaway, 27b (3d per chain! accepted; D. Haggerty £1 13s; Wilkinßon and Warren, £llss; P. Can £4 8s; Burgess Bros, £2l3s; W. Corbett, £139; Girdwood £12155, declined. For 26 chains near Maori pah—Thoa. Greenaway£3l2s, accepted; Wilkinson and -Warren,- 29b per chain; Burgess Bros,, £Hls6d; Harrison arid Ricard, £ll9s Od ; Giidwood, £3l; W. Corbett, £3B'loa; P. Carr, £2 6s, For 82 chains at Tankersley's creek— Thos. Greenaway, £1 5s per chain, accepted; Wilkinson and Warren, £ll2s; P. Carr, £1 4s 6d; Burgess Bros., £2l4s Harrison and Ricard, £1 19b Cd; W. Corbett, £141; Girdwood, £lB7. Mr McDougall moved porßuant to notice that the services of overseer as at present constituted be dispensed with, and remarked that it was solely on account of t M expense, and not out of any feeling against the present ovorueor that he moved in tho matter. Mr Cameron seconded. On being put to the meetiug tho motion was lost, only Messrs McDougall and Cameron voting for it, Mr Dowman moved, in accordance with notice, that tho Waihenga Toll bo abolished. Mr Harris seconded the motion which was lost. Mr Donald's motion for funding the proceeds of toll was seconded by Mr McDougall and carried. Mr Bidwill's motion lapßed through Mr Bidwill's absence. Mr Viles attended to ask that the Ranger be dispensed with from the Township to his boundary, or continued to the top pf the-Rimutaka. It was resolved that no action he taken at present, Mr Dowmon moved, and Mr Camoron seconded, That the Waihenga bridge be put into repair at once.—Carried, It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Matthews, that the annual meeting of the Board be held at noon en Saturday the Ist of May, and tho annual-meeting of ratepayers at 3 p.m. on the same date. The Poundkeeper and Ranger's reports showed receipts for the month at £3 16s 6d. The meeting then adjourned,
