MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The following is the Works Committee's report, to be presented at the Council meeting this evening :- The overseer reported :-(l), P. Carr has completed the formation and commenced metalling Short-Street. (2) I have put a temporary bridge at tho junction of South road and No 1 street Donald's Estate. (8), I have removed the post and rail fencing from the Gas Works site to the gravel pit section. (4), [ have erected a broastwork across the gully' in Church-street, as instructed. (5), The staff has been employed in forming and filling in the lower part of Church-Street. The overseer was instructed (1) to finish the filling in Church-street, and removal of ploughed stuff from Keatonstreet; (2) To put a man on to fence the gravel pit, Manaia; (3) that the staff be put on to Bannister-street next. The Town Clerk reported Stevens, the highest tenderer for the reserve railwayroad, agreed to take the section subject to the Council's right to take a chain road through by tho railway line, provided he bo placed in the same position as to fencing, and that a proportionate reduction bo made in tho annual rent. Tho Committee sanctioned the arrangement. It was resolved, That the Committee cannot recommend the Council to consent to the 66 feet right of way in Mrßenall's application, unless tho right of way is formod and metalled in the usual manner. The Town Clerk reported that the solicitor's advico ro exchange of roads at Manaia was that it could bo mado, and the Solicitor was therefore asked to write setting forth the way in which the exchange could be effected. The Chairman reported having seen Mr Phillips re the proposed cellar, and in all probability the cellar and approach would be constructed within tho property -of the applicant. Crs Heron and Hessey were deputed to wait on the Masterton Road Board re exchange of roads at Manaia. ' This concluded the business,
