R.M. COURT.

. MASTERTON-MONDaY. Before H. A..Stiutfokd, Esq., R.M 1 John Thompson alias Yorkey was charged with being drunk, and using obscene language yesterday. Constable Cullinane and Sergeant Price proved the case against him. He was fined 5s or 8 hours for drunkenesa, and 3 days imprisonment for the other offence. , ASSAULT. James William Kennedy was charged with assaulting Silas Arthur Anderson on the evening of February 9th. The informant also asked that Kennedy should be bound over to keep the peace. Mr Beard appeared for the complainant and Mr Skipper for defendant.

The complainant's statement was that between nine and ten o'clock on Monday night, February 9, he was crossing Church-street, when defendant followed him up and began making use of improper language, ultimately striking him. Mr Skipper in opening the case for the defendant said the case was a most trivial one. Looking at tho youth of defendant, who was but a boy, and the age and size of the prosecutor, it was ridiculous to say that he was in bodily fear of defendant. John Brennan, sworn, said he was deputy bailiff to the Court. On Saturday he was outside Kibblewhite's shop, and prosecutor called him out and asked him to see Kennedy and call the prosecutor all tho names' he could so as to protend to.be a foe to Anderson, that he might draw out of Kennedy the fact that he had struck Andersun. Theprosecuter said'if he would do this and give evidence in Court that Kennedy had admitted striking prosecutor he would give him five ".bob."

James'Ross, blacksmith, deposed that, the proseoutor and defendant were in his employ. The former inv\te,d the latter to come into the paddock; and ho would hammer him,
