GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The adjourned ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Thursday. Present —His Worship the Mayor, and Cra Yamham, Cotter, St. George, Maxton, and Cameron,
The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.
Correspondence.—lnwards Circular letter from Merry weather and Sons re fire brigade appliances. Circular letter from Waikato County Council re Charitable Aid Act, and suggesting certain amendments. His Worship said in respect to the letter that they were all aware that the Act was an unworkable one in a marked degree, and that no doubt it would be materially altered during the next session, but he did not think they could agree with all the proposed amendrafets as' sugggested by the letter from the™ikato County Council. He would suggest that the matter be allowed to remain in abeyance for the present. The report of the Works Committee was read, in which it was recommended that the Council havo a pipe driven for fire brigade purposes opposite the Ban>jl that the promise of a subsidy to the Papawai settlers towards building a bridge be withdrawn if the settlers do not pay into'the Borough fund the amount promised by them before the next ' meeting of the Council. That permission be granted to S. Maxton & Sons to erect a balcony over the footpath. That the following tenders be accepted2s chains metalling, Kempton's line, G. Wiggins at 19s 6d per chain; 25 chains metalline, Papawai road, H. It, Burgess, 18s Gd per chain; 12 chains formation and metailing, Papawai, Biahop & Roband, £2 2s per chain ; G chains Cross' line formation and metalling, S. Garrilty at £1 19s Gd per chain. -
, The report of the Finance was read and adopted, as were the Ranger's and Inspector of Stances' reports, W Or Cotter proposed, and His Worship the Mayor seconded, That Mr Cameron be requested to continue the lighting of the street lamps at the former price. Pursuant to notice, Cr Yarnham prolosed, and His Worship seconded, "That ho streets of the Borough bo named."jlarried, ~ 1 ri
Cr Varnliam proposrsd, and Cr Maxtoi seconded, That His Worship the Mayor, Crs Cotter, Cameron, and the mover be a Committee to go into the matter of naming the streets, and roport at next meeting.
Or Cotter proposed, as an amendment, and Cr St&eorgo seconded, That the matter be proceeded with at once, The amendment wis lost and the original motion carried,
Cr Cameron proposed, and Cr Varuham seconded, That an annual grant of £lO ba mado to tho lire Brigade for the purpose of keeping-their appliances, in order. Or Maxton proposed, and Cr Yarnham seconded, That Mr Kempton and Rev Mr Westin reoeivo notico, in accordance with tho act, to have the trees from their properties, which overhang the roads and footpath, trimmed or that tho same would bo done by the Council at thoiroxegnso.
