MASTERTON TOWN LANDS TRUST.
The regular monthly meeting of the Trustees was held in the Council Chambers last night. Present—Messrs Hare (Chairman), Muir and Feist. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Father Treacy asking the Trustees to repair tlio fence of the Trust paddock rented by him. Tho Secretary was authorised to see to tho matter. Captain C. Bates wrote as follows : " We beg to apply for a clause to be inserted in the lease of the Salvation Army Barracks property when renewed, giving some compensation at the end of the term for the dwelling house erected on the land, and that a clause be inserted in the lease when renewed giving ri£[ht of further renewal "—As the question was of such an important character, it was decideed to hold the matter over. In the meantime Messrs Hnro and Gapper were appointed a Committee to interview the Army officers and report.
Mr F. Bright wrote to the effect that being the purchaser of the lease of three sections, town acre 106,-he would like the whole included in ono lease and the builing reputations to be one instead of three buildings. The Clerk said that instead of putting up small buildings Mr Bright proposed putting up one large building equal in amount to three small ones. The application was granted, In regard to the notioe served on Mr Richards to give up possession of town acre 106 the clerk stated that Mr Richards had agreed to take the £5 offered by tho Trust, the incominp lessee, Mr Bright, having arrangod to let him have the use of part of the acre. It was resolved that the sum be handed
over to Mr Ricliarcla on his giving up possession. . The Chairman said there had, been a meeting of the Park Trustees tMt<day, and lie had been/asked'to .briamefore the present meeting the; necessity state of .the Park Trust, and he asked iljnj;.the balance of grant to the, end.,of ihe.yeatf be paid to them. The Chairman iurfciier said that a-sum of £4OO had been borrowed by the original Park; Trustees to improve the park, and there was some kind of assuranco that : the Town' Lands Trustees would repay this sum. 'They had taken up debentures to repay theflum in yearly payments of £56, principal and interest. The Town Lands Trustees paid thoPark Trustee annual sum'of'£3s towards this repayment and and-he sijttf, gested that they might'pay the whole of the Bum of the £56 per annum, the Park being so much used and appreciated bythe public Mr Muir said they would want a grant all the same,
In answer to a question, the' Chairman said no steps had been taken; the Park Trustees an elective body, as it would require a special act of Parliament to alter the existing state of affairs and give them power.to elect members of the Trust. ■' ' '
Mr Muir said it would considerably add to the exponse of. the management to have an annual election. After some further discussion it was resolved that the sum of £l7los Jjne to the Park Trust under the grant to M end of the year be paid forthwith. ' The draft of the new form of lease was. read, and a resolution was passed that the form as read be adopted for future leases in the placo of the form of lease adopted in April, 1885.
