ANNUAL DISTRICT MEETING OF ODDFELLOWS, M.U.
The annual district meeting of the Independent OrJer of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, was held on Thursday afternoon last at the Loyal Unity T jo Oddfellows' Hall, Featherston. The deputies of the respective Lodges wore entertained by the members of the Loyal Unity Lodge at an excellent dinner provided at the Empire Hotel. After dinner ° tames* was proceeded with. 1 .P.G.M. D. P. Loasby occupied the clmir; P.G. I. Clark, D.G.M., and P.G. fii ® anll ' B t er i 0.5., were also present. All the Lodges in the district wero duly represented by their respective deputies, ihe Grand Master read a lengthy and exhaustive address, from which it appeared that 85 new members had been installed during the year, and that there were 897 members good upon tho books of the several Lodges in the district. Tho sick pay during tho year amounted to

The Grand Master, in company with his colleagues, had visited the whole of the Lodges in the district, which lie found to be generally progressive, He urged upon the deputies tho great importance of establishing a funeral fund upon tho graduated system instead of tho present uniform plan. P.G. Isaac Clark (Antipodean Lodge) was elected Grand Master for the ensuing year; P.G. John Futness (Mania Lodge), Deputy Grand Master; P.G, Edwin Bannister, retaining the office of Corresponding Secretary. P.P.G.M. Thomas McKenzie was reelected Returning Officer; P.G. Robert bmiUi Examining Officer and v Warden; and P.G, Mark Maxton was appointed as Auditor The Loyal Masterton Lodge obtained leave to remove to the' Temple Chambers, and a resolution was carried that two banners.should bo purchased with the money received from the Demonstratum Committeo, £lO additional being voted for that purpose. New Lodge returns to the district were recommended to be similar to those of the Otago district. next half-yearly district meeting was appointed to be heldat the Loyal Britania Lodge, Wellington. P.G. Isaac Clarke was duly installed into the office of Grand Master by P.P.G.M, J. Smith, and a vote of thanks was given to the retiring district officers. A testimonial was unanimouslyagreedto.be given to P.P.G.M, P. Loasby, as a slight recognition of 1 his zealous attention to the business of the district during tho past year, A voto j of thanks was given to the members of ' the Loyal Unity Lodge for the excellent ' manner in _ which they had entertained 1 the deputies at the annual district ' meeting. ■ . • i
