A NEW SMALL FARM ASSOCIATION.

*—~.— A preliminary meeting was held last Wednesday night in Mr P. H. Wood's auction room, Carterton, for the purpura of forming a Small Farm Association (to be oallod the Carterton Small Farm Settlement Association). There were about 80 people present. Mr G. M. Gardener was voted to the chair.

The Chairman opened the meeting, and read the Government rules bearing 011 tho subject. He asked all present to fully discuss tho matter, and if they thought fit to move a resolution in favor of the proposed Association being formed he would thank some one to move it, after which they could proceed to business, as he himself was not personally interested in the mattor. Ho had called the meeting at the request of some of his fellow settlers, and as far as his opinion wont he thought that the present opportunity was a very favorable one for the rising generation to acquire freeholds for themselves.

Itwas then moved by MrYoung, and seconded by Mr Nichol, that they form themselves into a Small Farm Special Settlement Association, and that the following gentlemen form a committee:—Me.« is G. M. Gardener, G. Yule, A. Eddie, James Nichol, and Sunkel, The resolution having been put to the meeting, it was declared to lie unanimously carried.

Mr Eddie complained that the compulsory ownpitiwi was rather ton stringent, and was afraid that it would prevent a good many from joining the Association. The Chairman having replied to the objection, it was resolved that the meeting, Rtand adjourned till Wednesday, eyonin" next, and the Chairman was requested to gather all the information he could on the matter.'

A vote of. thanks to the Chairman, which wa« heartily responded to, brought the meeting to a close.
