GREYTOWN FIRE BRIGADE.
The members of the Greytown Fire Brigade held ut competition amongst themselves yesterday, with the result that they had an excellent afternoon's Bport. Tho first competifcioi. was a five men enrine contest, best two out of threo; run fifty yards, connect two lengths each of suction and delivery, get back to the eryine, and give throe beats with levers. Only two teams competed, No. 1 consisted of Messrs Quia, Roydhouse, Grigg, Webster, and W. Humphries, and No. 2 of Messrs Bowers, Blanche, J. Humphries, G. Humphries, and Franks. The latter team won this event rather easily, their time being 38jsecs and 39secs, as against 49isocs and 43secs of the former. The first prize was 30s and tho second 15s. The next event was a two men engine competition, two men to run fifty yards, connect one length each of motion and delivery, and give ono beat of lever. The following is the way the men were drawn, and their time and prizca ;—Muir and Bowers, 33$secs, Ist prize 20s and prize in kind; Grigg and Franks, 34£ sacs,, 2nd prize, 15s; Blanche and Rowe and G. and W. Humphries tied at 35secs, and in tho run off the Humphries' won 3rd prize, value 10s Od. Webster and J, Humphries, 36i seconds, Quin and fioydhouse, seconds. The next was the single man contest, and resulted in Quin with 39|seo winning Ist prize, Bowers 44fsec, 2nd, Grigg 45 two fifth seconds 3rd, Franks 4(!|sec, 4th, Webster 4S|, sth, G, Humphries 53sec, 6th. The next event was the Hose and reel; firemen to run reel to engine, connect three lengths delivery, two of suction, and all give three beats. Best two out of three heats. W. Humphries, Bowers, G. Humphrios, Franks and Muir went first, andmade66f,aiidsecondtrials6£, Blanche Roydhouse, Grigg Quin, and Webster then essayed, and made B4| sees, first trial, and then 46 sees, thuß winning the first prize 20s, second 10s. Fivo entered for the 220 fiat handicap, G. Humphries with 5 yards winning Ist prize 15s and J. Humphries scratch, .second, 7s 6d. A one hundred yards race for a cake fell to J, Roydhouse, and the cake fell to tho crowd generally, After the sports- the Brigade had dinner together at Mr Jones' Captain Baillie presiding, and in the evoning a very enjoyable dance was held in tho Town Hall at which a groat number onjoyed themselves notwithstanding i,he heat,
