PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting was held'on Friday last.' Present■!■• Messrs Davie (Chairman), Avery, Hall, Favrell, and Whitcombe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Correspondence—Outwards ;—To Mr Giles, cancelling contract. To Under-Secretary for Public Works, ro deviation on Toritea road.
To Survoy Department, re gravel reserves.
. To Wairarapa East County Council, re substituted Native rate roll. To Mr Anderson, re Toritea road contracts.
To Bank, re fixed deposits. Correspondence—lnwards:—From Survey Department, granting gravel pit. From Mr Rioux, re extra pay for deviating from road line. From Norman and Macdonald, and' also from J. W. Beaufort, asking for any engineering work that the Board might have to do.
From Bank, stating balance to be £287 4slod.
A petition was also received from the Pahiatua-Tiraumea Special Settlement Association, re road line up the Tiraumea river to ford about 45 chains.
Resolved that the Clerk write to the Association, stating their reply will be. given when answer has been received from the Government to their application for a bridge. Resolved that the Board cannot recognise Mr Rioux's claim, the deviation being his own fault. That the Masterton Road Board be asked when they are likely to pav into the credit of this Board the £IOO award. That application be made for subsidy under Local Powers and Finance Bill.
That application be made for deferred thirds and leasehold fifths now accrued.
That application be made to the Sur-veyor-General to instruct the Wairarapa East County Council to hand over the unexpended balance of grant for forming the Mungaramarama road, or any other roads in the district that they may have in hand,
The Overseer's report was read and considered satisfactory. He was instructed to examine and report to next meeting the best manner to spend balance due on Hall's road,
The following accounts were passed for payment .-—Anderson, final payment for Hall road, £lO5 83, and deposit £5; Bioui, final payment, £sl 3s 8d ; W. Hall, wages, L 6 7s (id; Lankoy, wages, L 3 3s; Igoe, U 4s; McMillan, L 9 12a; Clerk, quarter's salary, L 10; freight on safe, LI 2s; Andersou, No. 1 progress, LSO, deposit retained, LlO. Tenders were then opened and the following were accepted:—Patrick McLaughlin, 40 chains metalling Township road, 17s 6d per chain; Patrick McLaughlin, 80 chains metalling Tiraumea road, LI 14s; Patrick McLaughlin, 120 chains formation Toritea road in three sections, L 273.
