■ ■' Wmunfton,. January 18. -' Ithas been, decided that a meeting of Admiral Tryon, His Excellency the Governor, and the numbers of the Government, Bhall take place in' Wellington on the 22nd inst. It is understood that Sir Julius Vogel will not be present. F.M.S. Nelson will leave Wellington for Hobart on the 24th inst.

With reference to the refusal of the Eastern Cable 'Extension Company to accept the Government proposals re the cable subsidy, Sir Julius Vogel wires from Waiwera as follows:—" The Cable Company have Bent a, cablegram to the effect that they' will raise the tariff, unless wo give a subsidy for ten years, and then they will insist on a minimum of ten words, and a press gaurantee or they will take the subsidy for five years without the proposed reduction of present charges. I have refused to entertain the propositions, and have cabled to tho AgentGeneral to ascertain the cost of making and laying a new cable from the principal makers, The cost to the colony would, 1 believe, be less."
