TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was hold at the Council Chambers on .' Saturday.' Present (Messrs B. Boys, (Chairman) W. Booth, H. R, Bunny, J. Reynolds, E. W. Dorset, N. Grace, W. Parker, and H, Braithwaite. Tho minutes; of the previoUß meeting were read and confirmed. -The following correspondence was read. From Mr C. Phillips re road known as Joseph's line Matarawa, making'certain suggestions, and imputing words made übo of by the clerk at the last meeting. Some discussion arose aB to whether the town grant had or had not. matured when.it.was resolved 'that) enyuines '-'Wm the proper authority be made in respect to the matter, and also' to inform Mr Phillips that he was undera misapprehension about the matter. Shfiw's' laiid, 1 asking: that the gates be, removed; 'As tho property was recently ■sold by Mr'rßidjjway to Mr Shaw, .and also the gates are the'same which he •erected, the Board did not think that they,were at present justified in making the present owner remove the gates, and also to inform Mr Shaw to make the necessary application to the Board in respect to the gates. . From the East County Council ro rates on Native lands, and aakiner the Board to share in contesting the legality of the reductions made.;. It was resolved that this Board is'not prepared to incur any expense in testing the action, _ From the same ro some work required at the Waiilgawa Bridge. It was resolved to inform them that this Board fully concurs in the matter. From residents,at Kokotau re certain: works required in their district, as the residents do not agree as to wliero the money should be spent. It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands- qf the Warden to expend whero he thinks it is most required. Mr 0. Phillips and two others waited upon the Board in reference to the road which has been referred to previously, and they were informed that the Board could not do anything in the matter till they were satisfied in reference to the Crown grant maturing. The deputation, thanked the Board and withdrew.
Tenders for metalling Oliver's line wore opened, "there being two at the same amount.. It was moved by Mr H. Braithwaite that W. Cadwallader's tender at £1 2s (id per chain be accepted. Accounts amounting to £lO9 wore passed for payment. By tho request of the Warden forNo 5 Ward, tenders were authorized to be called for certain workß in his Ward, also tendors for metallinp the Gladstone Road. Mr J. Reynold moved that Walden be notified to proceed with the metalling on Hughes' lino without delay. This concluded the business and the meeting terminated.
