WAIRARAPA RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

Thk annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association was continued yesterday, and completed at dusk.. The.'weather was favorable for shooting, though many of the competitors declared that their shooting at 600 yds. was spoilt' by a light variable wind which kept playing across the range. The scoring at this range was certainly very poor, some, of the best shots scarcely hitting the target. BotlrSorgfc.' Kuohen, of tho Wellington Artillery, and Vols. G. Bentley and Kummer, of the Masterton Rifles, who,, had excellent chances for the aggregate, lost thevn through making so many ■misses,. -The: aggregate haa been taken by.-Oorpl, Gray,, of the Wellington Artillery, with a : score qf 160, not a little of which is. due to his steady shooting'at the long range, and he is followed by three other Wellington- men. The meeting- did not' attract a large number of visitors, although it was held so close to the town. The inner man was cared.for pn the, ground by flip F. (Mr Caselberg) to attribute 1 the prizes, He had some' doubt a? to the propriety of a civilian distributing prizes to military men,-but he had beon assured by soveral authorities on such matters that it'was not at' all an unusual thing. He might say that if he was not, a military man now, he once' had the honor of serving Her Majesty—as a full private in the Militia. (Laughter.)
