THEATRE ROYAL.
JEANIE DEANS.
This beautiful four act dramatization of Sir Walter Scott's" Heart of Midlothian" was/put on the boards at the Theatre before a very gbod house last night. All the lower seats were filled, and there was also a Very-fair gathering in the dress circle. It was, however, noticeable that those residents of Masterton who can best afford to patronise the theatre, and who, one should think, would be specially interested in this classic work, were prominent only by their absence. Miss Juno, in the title role, gave the audience one of her best exhibitions of her histrionic accomplishments, and the gardon scene, in which she made her appeal to the Queen, will not readily be forgotten. Miss Ella Carrington had two parts to sustain, and they were as distinct from each other as black is from white. The first was "Madge Wildfire, 11, and the second, that of "Queen Caroline." She was every bit. the liarum, scarum Scotch girl in the one, and the stately lady in the ftther, Mr J. H. Taylor also had a dual,'part, as ho represented the Laird 0' Dumbiedykesand the Duke of Argyle, in both of which he acquitted himself to the entire satisfaction of the audience. All the other characters were well taken, and the company as a whole appeared to great advantage throughout.
