CRICKET.

Masterton* v Greytown.' The'first picket of the season;, between the above clubs 'was' played On the Park Oval on Saturday, and resulted in a rather easy win for the visitors, who had sevon wickets to spare. The ground wbb thoroughly unfit to play on. ' If it had been paved with bricks it could not have been harder. The weather, however, was all that could be desired, The Masterton team, which was rather a weak one, owing to the absence of several players whose names usually-figure prominently in Club matches, were the first to go to the wickets, but W. Judd trundled the leather in such a fashion that the innings somewhat resembled a solemn prosession from the tent to the wickets and back again, No less than eight wickets tell to him, and of the remaining two, one was run out, and Cuff took the other. The heaviest scorer was "Extras" who was credited with 18. Whatman made 6, and O'Connor 5. The innings closed for 35. Small as the score was, the Greytown men did not go in with any degree'of confidence, owing to the nature of the ground, but they, piled up runs pretty quickly till McKenzie went on, when the - visitors began to retire as quickly as the home team did. The innings closed for 55, towards which Knell and W. Judd contributed 14 each. Masterton in the second innings only pot 31, towards which Perry contributed 8 and E. tlare 7. Greytown wanted twelve to win, and this was knocked up at the cost of three wickets, In the first innings of the Masterton team Judd to jk eight wickets for pine runs, and bowled two maiden overs, Rutherfurd bowled eight overs, of which four were maidens, without taking a wicket, five runs being scored.
