SUNDAY RECREATION.
To the Editor.
Sir.—Your local contemporary has devoted two leading articles to the subject of Sunday Cricket in the Basin Reserve at Wellington, but unfortunately, instead of bringing forward proof that cricket and other games and amusements oil Sunday are an infringement of the rights of any section of the community, he has contented himself with employing arguments of the most flimsy description, to bolster up old British predudices and antiquated institutions. The question shall cricket be played on Sunday in the Basin reserve at Wellington, is oue for the people of Wellington to decide, but the question whether cricket or other recreation shall be allowed or prohibited is one in which a great number of people in this colony is interested.' 1 am not much of a cricketer, and if I were, Ido not think 1 should care to play on Sunday, but I should not, on that account, deny my neighbour that priveloge. The Police Offences Act prohibit Sunday trading but wisely leaves the regulation of Sunday recreation to public opinion. Yours &c., Investigator, Masterton, December 14th, 1885
