THE WOOL-DUMPING CHARGES

At the regular meeting of the Harbor Board held on Thursday, Mr Booth moved the motion standing in his name, viz, " That the . present charge' for dumping wool be reduced at once from 2s to Is 9d per bale," In support of the mption he said that the -higher charge had only been agreed upon because the Boavd was under the impression that it could not be done for less, except at a loss. After some discussion a division was taken, the result being that the motion was carried by a majority of one, It is just as well that woolgrowers in the district should know who are their friends, and we therefore give the division list, which was as follows: - Ayes : Messrs Pe'arce (Chairman), Booth, Duthie, Rose, and Lancaster Noes: Messrs Nathan, JS.eajfcon, Williams, and Wheeler, It will be seen that the motion had the support of the two country representatives, the agent of the New Zealand Shipping Co., the Chairman, who is a very large exporter, and of Mr Duthie, who, though not an exporter of wool,.has always done what he considered was best for the district as a whole, and not for the benefit of the' town only. Mr Booth is to be congratulated upon the success which has attended his well-timed efforts. They will enable the producer to make another saving, whicl], though small, is well worthy of consideration during the present depressed state of the wool market, '"This is about the first time that the country interests have carried the day on- the Board—itself an. ample, proof that Mr Booth's motion was perfectly just and fair.
