THE LIBRARY.
The meipbfp of the Masterton Borough Council were scavtjeiy consistent in their remarks upon the condition of the Library last night, but after all they may soon take a step which would lead to a much-needed reform in the administration of itsaffairs. The election of the Library Committee is only by courtesy left to the ratepayers, as the Council rwllyappo}n(isit.TlieCommittee is therefore nothing more nor less than a servant of the Council, lc was fopd that the Library building stood in urgent need of repairs, and the Committee, being short of f.uncjs, naturally turned to the Council for assistance. The Council, in effect, replied that the Committee had been very extravagant, but thatit Alight use S2O of its own money for the purposes indicated, The Committee might very well say" thank you- for nothing." However, if the Council determines to take the manage* merit into its own hands, we shall perhaps see a material reduction in tho current expenses. At any rate, the change sbou.W be one for the better.
