LAND BOARD.

(Evening Press) The usual fortnightly meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday morning. Present—Messrs H. Bunny (who, in the absence of the Commissioner, occupied the chair), W. A. Fitzherbert, W. W. MeCardle, G. Beetham, and T. Mnson. Mr W. Wakeman, selector ot section 17, and Messrs H. and A. W. Sedcole, selectors of section 22, Block' VIII., Mangahao, applied for permission to pay off the balance of the capitalized value of the unpaid instalments, All conditions being fulfilled, the applications were granted. Mr S, F. .Bennett applied to transfer section 8, Block 1., Kopuaranga, to Mr William Porter.-Granted. Mr J. King applied to be allowed to transfer section 9, Block IV., Makuri, to Mr E. Mossman. The Ranger reported that the required area had been felled and burned, but was not grassed as required by law. The application was granted. The valuation of the Ranger on Crown Lands fronting sections 1 to 6, Ekatahuna, was submitted. Its consideration was deferred till next meeting. The surveyor's report on the land east of Mangaone river and adjoining the Pahiatua and Mangaone block was presented.

It was reported by the Commisioner that no surveyor was available to survey the block of Crown lands adjacent to the Tiraumea-Woodville Special Settlement. Mr J. Donald forwarded a tracing showing a portion of the Orown lands at the north of the Tauherinikau Rivor, which he desired to purchase. The ranger was instructed to report on the application. Mr Poison, of Wanganui, wrote declining to purchase the land in the Paratieke Bloch at the price offered, and he applied to have the land put up by auction, weighted with costs and survey—viz., £6 lGs 4d. This was agreed to. Mr J. Anderson applied for an agricultural lease of 320 acres of Crown lands in the Pohangina district; It was pointed out that the Board had no power to grant the request.

A plan showing the sections to be offered for sale in the township of Mangahanoe was presented far the approval of the Board. Its consideration was deferred till next meeting. Mr George Jones, of Pahautanui, applied for the lease of a certain piece of foreshore. The matter was ordered to stand over till next meeting. Mr Michael Callis was declared the purchaser of Section 55, Hunterville, for which two applications had been received, It was reported that Mr Cook, Makara, had applied for Section 83, Terawhiti. Consideration deferred. An application was received from Mr Coleman Phillips for information as to the purchasing of a portion of the Crown Lands adjoining his property for a good fencing line, The matter was left in the hands of the Commissioner to deal with.

On the motion of Mr Beetham, it was resolved that the portion of the Crown lands at Alfredton west of Section 1, marked as reserved for public purposes, be reserved for Educational purposes; and it was also decided to get a report thereon.

Mr I\%, waited on the Board with reference to his application for the value of improvements effected on Crown lands adjoining his section, Kaiwhata, and explained that he had felled and cleared the land under the impression that it was his section. Mr Beetham gaye notice to move that the previous decision be rescinded witi, a view to. granting the application. The Board then adjourned.
