THE BOROUGH COUNCIL AND THE FIRE BRIGADE.
The Borough Council at its meeting last night unanimously agreed that it was desirable that the affairs of the Fire Brigade, including plant and liabilities, should be taken over, and a Committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements, full power being given to act. We think the Council acted wisely in taking this step. The Brigade has not been on a very satisfactory footing ot lute, and it is absolutely necessary to afford better protection' from fire than hitherto, The Brigade lacked funds and an efficient plant, without which even the best of men must become disheartened. In the hands of the Council, the Brigade will stand a fair chance of becoming thoroughly efficient, and capable of coping with (ires that do not occur in the closely-built portion of the town, Most of the present members are quite willing to join again, and as some of them are thoroughly up in their drill, and have had considerable experience, there should be no difficulty in the way. Property owners in Masterton should be well satisfied with the action of the Council in the matter.
