Dunedin, October 7. About 6 o'clock this morning a most destructive fire was discovered raging in the warehouse of Messrs Ferguson and Mitchell, ■stationers, printers etc. Owing to the prompt action of the Eire Brigade the flames were subdued speedily, but not before damage to the extent of thousands was done, The whole of the'mechanical, composing, and part of their lithographic departments were destroyed. The firm's building,' and stock were insured for £12,500, the amount being destributed over most of the local offices. The fire seems to have originated near the gas engine which was used as a motive power for tke printing machinery, but in what way lias not yet. been discovered.
Wellington, this day. The City of Sydney, with the September English mails, left San Franseisco for Auckland on September 26th, time table date. The Australia, with .Colonial mails' of September, reached San Franseisco on the Cth inst, one day before time table date.
