CARTERTON CRICKET CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the Carterton Cricket Club was held last night in the ante-room of the Institute. There was a large attendance, and Mr F. W. R. Seed occupied the chair. The Chairman opened the meeting by reading the advertisement convening the same, after which the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the report and balance-sheet read and adopted. The latter showed cash in hand 7s 2d. The next business was the election of officers, Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R., was re-elected President, Mr F. W, R, Seed vice-President, and Mr W, Moore captain. The office of Secretaiy and Treasurer had to go a begging for awhile, as the previous office-bearer (Mr H. A, Ewen) refused to accept of it again, but after some persuasion Mr Potts was induced to take the office pro, tem, The following Committee were elected: —Messrs T, Rathbone, H. A, Ewen, C, G. Beckett, Dempsey Acocks, Dudson, and Oakly, jun, Mr T, Rathbone said that Mr W, Booth offered the Club the use of a paddock in the late Mr Walker's estate at a rental of 20s per year, without the right of grazing, or 30s per year with the right of grazing cattle on it, and Mr Potts said that Mr Bishop had offered the use of the Show ground to the Club free of charge, Moved by Mr W, Moore, seconded by Mr T,' Carter that Mr Booth's offer at 30s per'year be accepted. was moved by Mr Potts and seconded by Mr Dempsey that Mr Bishop's offer be accepted,
The amendment and the motion being put to the meeting, the voting was equal, and the Chairman gave the casting vote in favor of Mr Bishop's offer, on account of the better adaptability for the purpose. Messrs Ewen, Dempsey, and Potts were appointed a Ground Committee, The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Bishop, thanking him on behalf of the Cricket Club for his kindness in placing the Show ground at their service. The annual subscription was fixed at 5s per member, and the opening of the season was fixed for Saturday next. The Vice-President and the Captain briefly thanked the meeting for the honor in re-electing them to their former offices, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
