HORSE PARADE.

Messrs Lotos & lorns' annual horse parade was held in the paddock off Renall street, adjoining their new yards, yesterday afternoon. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance of breeders, but the number of stallions shown was not so large as might reasonably have been anticipated, or as the importance of tlio occasion warranted. If there was a scarcity in number, it cannot, however, be said there was a lack of quality, This applies more especially to the class for thoroughbreds, among which there was soine of the very best blood in the colony. In saying this we do not go merely by pedigree, but also by the appearance of some of the horses. In Lord Mandeville, for instance, there is a strain that cannot be surpassed, and if his full brother, Lord Lisgar, is anything like him in appearance, it is no wonder that he is considered the first show horse in Australia. Quite fit to compare with him in every respect was Mr J. C. Vallance's Yoltigeur, and there were many present who found it hard to make up their minds as to which was the best of the two. Beside these thore were Lillipee, Tattler, Treason, Dan O'Oonnell and Dubious, nearly all with exceptionally good pedegrees, If our breeders only had mares that could equal them in this respect, they could breed horses that would hold their own anywhere in the colony.;

In draught stock, Mr J. Harding's Gladstone attracted very general attention by his glossy dark bay mottled coat, wavy mane, and general symmetry and power, A horse with a better neck has never stood in the Wairarapa. The Laird o' Largo, Dainty Davie, Rob Roy, jand the Curate were also well worth inspecting. The two last-named were new to many, Rob Roy is a three-year-old, the property of Messrs McGregor Bros., and bred by Mr R, Cockburn, got by Palmerston out of Jean—a mare that has been a very successful prize-taker. He is a very Ajax in bulk, has splendid hind quarters, and good shoulders and middle piece, while his legs leave little to be desired. As a young and untried horse he deserves some attention. The Curate is a brown three-year-old, and the property of Mr T. Chamberlain. He is by Gladstone, and promises to develop into a grand horse. He is certainly a credit to his sire. He will serve this season.

The following are brief notes on the horses shown :
