Auckland, September 14. A well-attended public meeting. was held in the Pitt-street Wesleyan Church, when resolutions were carried for the establishment of a Social Purity Society, and officers and committee were elected. It was suggested to make an alteration in the pledge from " With the help of God" to "On my honor," but the proposal was not entertained. The diorama of the Soudan War was sold by auction to-day, at the instance of a local bill poster, and realised £3O, Christchurch, September 14. A professional swindler named Mary Belinda Todd, with many aliases, has been sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labor for imposing on the landlord of the Templeton Hotel by representing herself to be a lady of means, and getting board and lodging on the clieap. A charge for uttering a forged cheque for £lll is pending against-her. •
