Constable Joseph Eccleton ■ v Tiki Mahupuku.—Defendant was charged with a breach of the Borough bye-laws by riding round the corner of a street at a faster pace than a walk, He pleaded guilty, but on the constable stating the circumstances, the defendant stoutly denied his statements. Evidence was then taken which proved the offence. The defendant appeared quite an adept at cross-examination. The constable stated that the defendant, when he remonstrated with him for his fast pace, said, "alright old man, you can summons me."
His Worship severely repremanded the defendant for his offence, and also for his impertinence to the constable when doing his duty, and inflicted a fine of 20s and costs, or 7 days' hard labor, E. Wilkie v H, Gray.—Rent, £3. Defendant produced a receipt for £2 signed by tho plaintiffs agent, and paid £1 and ils costs in court, Judgment was entered for plaintiff for amount paid' in court.
