The Allgemeine Brauer and Hopfen* Zeitung gives the following as being the' i most recent statistics with regard to th® tax upon spirits in Europe:—The tax yields a revenue of £18,525,850 in Russia, £11,581,390 in Great Britain, of £14,508,000 in the United States, of £10,603,660 in France, of £2,334,640 in North Germany, of £1,890,450 inHolla'nd, of £1,062,400 in Austria-Hunjjiiy, and of, £671,200 in Belgium,, This i* equivalent to 9s per head of the population in Holland, 6s 6d in Great Britain, 6g in the United States, 5s 4s 6d in Russia, 2s 4d >in Belgium,, Is 3d in North Germany,. and 7d in-Austria-Hungary; while the consumption per head of alcohol is-given as fy gallons in Denmark 2 gallons in North Germany, li gallons in Russia, rather less than 1£ in Austria-Hungary, If gallon in'" Belgium, 1J gallon in Prance and Holland, Sweden, two-thirds of a gallon in GreK Britain, and rather less than two-thirds of a gallon in the United States.'
