TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Sunday. Present—Messrs Booth (in the chair), Grace Dorset, Braithwaite, Reynolds, Parker, and A, Gallon. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Treasurer reported a credit balance of £IOB 183 3d,
A long correspondence was read from Mr Moore re Mr Anderson's contract at Flat Point, recommending that, as Mr Anderson had done 11 good deal of work over and above his contract, he should be remunerated for 'it, and also from Mr Anderson, himself stating that the work had to be done over again in places on account of the side of the road giving way, It was moved by Mr Grace, and seconded by Mr Reynolds, That Mr Anderson be allowed £8 for extras, A letter was received from the Public Works Department re a special rate for the money advanced .for the GladstoneFlat Point Bridge. Moved by Mr Reynolds, seconded by Mr Dorset, that the sum of L2O be offered to the owner of land behind the Taratahi Dairy Factory, for a 21 years lease of an acre of land fcr.a gravel pit, the renting of the same to be done according to law. Messrs Beard and Gray wrote as to right of laying off a road through Native land at Kokatau, which was to the effect that the Board could take the road under the Public Works Act, and by getting the consent of the Natives. Mr Eaton explained to the Board that Mr Clifton, the present lessee, refuses to allow-the road unless it be fenced off on each side, The matter was allowed to stand over. Mr Riley waited on the Board with reference to the opening of the road to his property. The Chairman said that until the Town Board completed the culverts on Lincoln road, the Board could do nothing for him. Mr Parker asked on behalf.of the Dairy Factory to allow the directors to put soma stones in a hole by the road side leading to the factory. Application granted,
Mr Derrick waited on the Board, and explained that lie had nothing to do with undermining tho side of the gravel pit on Park road, as was complained of at a previous meeting by Mr E, Goodin. The Chairman drew the attention of the Board to the agitation which waa going on about the cartage of wool, and asked if it would not.bp advisable to have something done to the roads to stand tho extra traffic, but the majority of the members thought that the carting would not come t'i anything, and the matter waa allowed to drop,
. Mi'Braithwaitoobtaiued leave to employ a man with horse and eart for 2 or 3 days, on the Waihakeke road to 811 in the ruts.
It was resolVtd that notice be given to defaulting ratepayers to pay without delay to avoid legal proceedings. For metalling 18 chains of the Hutunuiorangi road, the tender of Mr H. Bunjeßswas accepted at £1 2s 6d per chain, and for clearing aud forming bridle track from Gladstone to the Admiral run Messrs Gardner & Co's tender of £47 was accepted.
