Messrs Girdwood and Yule, who had been appointed to visit the settlement, submitted their report, which was to the effect that in conjunction with Mr Ellison they had decided on the site for the township and suburban sections, and recommended that application be made for an alteration in the boundaries, as the back line extended too close to tho spurs of the Tararua, and that the land cut off by the alterations be cut up into larger sections for lease or sale to members, With regard to the road into the block they recommended that the line north of the Mangatainoke be approved, as there was no obstacle to a good road of easy gradebeingtakon through, andthat, would avoid fording the Mangatainoke river. We have received a. letter signed 'Englishman" in reply to ''A New' Zealanderat Home," a communication whioliws copied from aWanganui exchange. We may .state that it has been explainedthat the letter was not intended for publication, and that the visitor - gave what must be admitted on all hands to be an overdrawn pioture. Our correspondent goes to the other extreme, and overdraws as much m' the other direction. If lie will couch his letter in such terms as will do no' injustice to New Zealaud, we shall be happy to publish his letter; but while he indulges in suoh ridiculous statements as the one, for instance, that New Zealanders, call pudding ''dessert," no good purpose can be served. Surely '(Englishman"haß travelled aslittle inNew Zealand as "New Zealanderhasathmne," otherwise.the remark regarding -scenery would never havo been made.
