We lmve just a word or two to say with regard to the proposed MastertonMangatainoke Special Settlement. The promoters are not responsible to the public for what they do, as our local contemporary tries to show they are. They are-under 110 compulsion to call a public meeting; and further than that, they are not compelled to accept every name that is suggested to them, We cannot help it if the editor of our contemporary has reason to feel sore on that detail. A safeguard on this point was deemed necessary in order to avoid a repetition of the split which occurred in the Mastercon-Mangaliao Association. The proposed Association will be able to knock along very nicely so long as the Minister of Lands approves, With regard to Mr McCardle's name being used, all we can say is that Mr McOardle deserves the thanks of the members for 'the interest he has taken in the matter.
